June turned two! It was such a happy day. She awoke softly, walked out of our room, and uttered her first sentence of the day in her sleepy, raspy voice, "balloons are EV-ee-weh-yurh!" (third image). We sang to her at the exact time of her birth, in the exact spot where she entered the world. As this will be her last birthday in this house -- we plan to move before her next -- that part was extra special this year. She ate her favorite, chocolate cake, opened some little gifts and entertained her guests with her generous sense of humor and hearty attempts to blow out her candles. She has lived up to her name through and through, such a dreamy little light beam!
p.s. The photo on the table is of my dad at my fourth birthday party. He dressed as a clown for our parties, which I thought made him the coolest man alive.

Happy birthday to June! She is adorable! My own smallest one turned two in April; it is such a fun age.
ReplyDeleteWe had one of my birthdays at the local park and, though I was never the athletic one in any crowd, I actually won the three-legged race with my little best friend, Sarah. I think I was six. That was fun.
thank you, eBirdie! What a fantastic memory! Funny, I was just telling a story the other day about a sack race I did in 2nd grade (I didn't win). : )
DeleteWhat a sweet little thing she is! On Lowe's first birthday I found out I as pregnant with Margo and Rupert, so a very special birthday. I love the idea of singing to children in the spot where they were born. I think we will have to do the same for the twin's first birthday :)
ReplyDeleteP.S can you share where June's dress is from? It's adorable.
DeleteBessie, thanks. I made the dress to match the dress of a little dolly I made her. I have a link to the pattern somewhere, but can't find it at the moment.
DeleteHappy birthday June! May two be full of growth & joy.
ReplyDeletethanks, Rowan!
DeleteHappy birthday sweet June! I hope being two is the best year yet! ;)
ReplyDeleteP.S - love all the photos in your other post... glad you came out unscathed. And what beautiful discoveries on your drive - Terrain looks amazing!! x
Thank you, Claire. It is so, so amazing. If you're ever here...
DeleteI just found your blog and it is one of the BEST blogs I have ever chanced upon! I really enjoy the aesthetics, the names and the way you seem to value simplicity and creativity when it comes to raising your children. I am friends with some parents whose children have their own iPads and the extent of their (plastic, unsentimental) toy collections is unbelievable. I adore your photography as well...perhaps I should have saved this for an email! The Etsy shop holli, run by Paola reminds me of this lovely blog. Thank you for creating it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, Ruby Louisa (holy awesome name!) and I'm so happy you found me. I do value simplicity and creativity (and tidiness/beauty), but I'm trying to be less militant about it, too, and find we're all happier for the strides I'm making there! Living the way we do works really well for us, but it's not for everyone, for sure.
DeleteI love holli by Paola; thanks for sharing it!
This photo of your little girl with her cake is priceless, timeless, perfect! Love your blog
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nicole!
Deletevery cute little girl. June seems to fit her very well. Makes me like the name more. It's always just kind of average to me but seeing it on a person changes it.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember birthdays in particular much, but I seem to recall for my 8th birthday my mom paid a lady in our town to make me a cake - we usually had simple homemade cakes - and I remember loving that white and pink frilly birthday cake.
